Privacy policy

This policy covers https://usvindecoder.com. Many VIN check sites ask for an email or a card before showing a result, and use the VIN and the address to sell reports or pass leads to dealers. This site asks for neither. The publisher is established in France, so the EU General Data Protection Regulation governs everything the site does, for every visitor; residents of US states with a consumer privacy law keep at least the rights below.

This site sets no cookie and stores nothing on your device.

1. Who is responsible

Radif Partners
49 rue du Ressort

2. What happens to a VIN you type

The structure of the VIN (check digit, model year, maker code) is read in your browser, with no network request. When the 17 characters are complete, your browser sends the VIN directly to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (vpic.nhtsa.dot.gov and api.nhtsa.gov) and, with the make, model and year it returns, to the Department of Energy and EPA site fueleconomy.gov. These are US government services with their own privacy policies; they receive the request like any visit to their sites, including your IP address. The VIN never reaches us: the site is a set of static pages with no server code and no database. A VIN alone does not identify a person, but it can be linked to one through title records, so share links carefully.

After you type, the address bar may show the VIN or the model you looked up, so that you can copy a link to the result. That link stays on your device unless you share it.

3. What else is processed

Hosting logs

GitHub, which hosts the pages, records the IP address, time, page and browser type of each request to keep the service secure. Legal basis: legitimate interest. Retention follows GitHub's policy.

Stability monitoring without cookies

To find broken pages and scripts, the site loads Microsoft Clarity in its cookie-free mode: errors, loading times and clicks are measured per page view, without cookies and without linking visits; page content and everything you type, VINs included, are masked. Legal basis: legitimate interest in a working site (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). You can object by blocking clarity.ms.

E-mails

If you write to us, we keep your address and message to answer, and delete them three years after the last exchange. You never need to send a VIN to report an error: the campaign number or the model is enough.

4. No sale, no leads

We sell no data, share none with dealers, insurers or history report companies, and build no profiles.

5. Transfers

The host and the government services queried by your browser are in the United States; hosting data may be processed there under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.

6. Your rights

Access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability and objection: write to contact@usvindecoder.com, we answer within one month. You may also complain to the Commission nationale de l'informatique et des libertés (CNIL) (https://www.cnil.fr).

7. Children

The site is meant for adults buying, owning or servicing a vehicle and collects nothing from children.
